Safe and Unsafe Touch
Beyond eye was invited by teachers of a government school in Indian state of Uttarakhand, to conduct its first interactive workshop on ‘safe and unsafe touch’ with 21 adolescents of the ages 13-14 years. The interactive workshop was conducted with class 8 students from 5 villages of the Pauri Gharwal district – Bagadhkhet, Jagdehi, Bithakhoti, Golikal, Bhandar.
The very fact that this was the children’s first kind of an interaction on ‘safe and unsafe touch’ or sexual and reproductive anatomy showed their lack of awareness on the same. Further, this awareness/education was not only limited to the children but the teachers also did not engage in any kind of discussion or activity on sexual and reproductive anatomy with the children.
